Sophomore Year
Westside Dance Alliance |
I have been extremely lucky to be a part of a dance group like Westside Dance Alliance. I joined the group when I was twelve years old and am a part of the group today. In school we are taught to be good examples for the grades below and above us. We should be kind and helpful to one another in and out of class. In my dance group that is exactly what we do and I know that I show my contributions to those characteristics to all the younger dancers. There are also times that my instructor will ask me to lead stretching exercises or even dance choreography and that improves my leadership experience.

Youthlinc Scholarship Essay |
The Youthlinc Young Humanitarian Scholarship program required me to write an essay explaining what the difference between being a humanitarian and a volunteer is. I spent a good amount of my time writing this essay and it explains exactly why it is integration and application of knowledge, civil, social and personal context. I grew up helping my community to become a better one and my education at AMES has helped me discover what it truly means to be a humanitarian and stand up for what I believe in. I am comfortable talking about what is right and understanding that my opinion is mine and that other people can have their own opinion as well. I will always listen to what my peers and community is saying because it is important to do something about what they are trying to promote.
